The archives of the Worcestershire Regiment, its predecessor and successor regiments are now held in Worcester and Nottingham.
In Worcester, we hold an extensive range of archive material including regimental histories, publications, photographs, war diaries, personal letters, diaries and memoirs relating to:
- the 2nd Battalion The MERCIAN Regiment
- the Worcestershire & Sherwood Foresters Regiment
- the Worcestershire Regiment
- the 29th (Worcestershire) Regiment of Foot and 36th (Herefordshire) Regiment of Foot
- the Worcestershire Militia and Volunteer Rifle Corps
We are delighted to offer an experienced archive enquiry service for a small fee. If you have an research query, please complete our enquiry form and submit it online or post it to us along with your payment. See information regarding our fees below. The postal address in on the enquiry form.

We regret that we are unable to answer research queries by telephone.
All money raised by research is used to fund conservation and maintenance of our museum and archive collections and support our volunteer costs.
- Per enquiry, per soldier: £25.00
- Broader research enquiry (i.e. battle, memorial or regiment): £25.00 per hour
- Visits to the Archives for research (must be booked in advance): £25.00 per hour
We do ask for payment up front, and our fees are not refundable. You can pay by sending us a cheque (UK only) made out to The Mercian Regiment Museum or via our Paypal account. From the date of received payment it may take up to 8 weeks for us to investigate and respond to your request.
The fee for investigating a single serviceman is based on the cost of an hour’s research. If we find that there is more information available and thus more time is required, we will inform you before continuing and may ask for an additional fee. Unfortunately, in some cases, despite our best efforts, we may not be able to supply any information: in this instance, the charge still stands.
